Small businesses in the United Kingdom are making a quick transition to ecommerce where they are better able to market and sell their products. More importantly, this trend is expected to continue. At least half of deliveries will come from internet retailers in 2016, according to a Global Freight Solutions study.
The number of firms selling products exclusively online has risen by 31 percent in the past year, according to a survey of 4.5 million small to medium businesses (SMEs) by PeoplePerHour.com. Companies selling more than half of their products has grown by 27 percent, which means that almost half of small businesses make 47 percent of their money online through debit or
credit card processing.
"The move to ecommerce won’t be news to the majority of observers of the UK small business sector," says PeoplePerHour.com founder and CEO Xenios Thrasyvoulou, according to Fresh Business Thinking. "What will come as a surprise, however, is the pace with which the UK small business community is embracing the opportunities offered by the internet."
Just last year, the same survey revealed only 18 percent of small businesses were selling entirely online, while 37 percent were selling half of products virtually. With secure
merchant services, retailers can provide customers with a professional online shopping experience to increase sales.
