Retailers believe that mobile technology will be a key factor for sales growth within the coming years, according to a KPMG Consumer Markets Survey.
The global study revealed that 44 percent of retailers in the U.S. think that implementing mobile technology will maximize sales, while 36 percent of those in the U.K., 46 percent in Germany and 50 percent in India think the same. The study points out that mobile devices are more important in developing countries where consumers are more likely to use smartphones for shopping because there is less broadband available.
"Mobile technology will help decide who wins in the retail space," said KPMG consumer markets partner Tim Clifford. "Success in both developed and emerging markets will depend on the swift adoption of mobile as a device for communicating with customers and for facilitating transactions."
Businesses that want to stay ahead of the trend and maximize sales can implement new retail technology in their brick-and-mortar locations as well as their online stores. Online payment services enable retailers to accept credit and debit cards for the most convenient payment methods. PCI compliant gateways can securely complete transactions at the
point-of-sale terminal or through virtual credit card processors.
